2009 was a well regarded but not exceptional vintage for red wines from the Cote de Beaune. The wines of Chateau Pommard began to increase in quality from 2003 when new owners installed highly reputable winemakers.
Their monopole vineyard, Clos Marey-Monge is named after the eventual combined name of two famous Burgundy families who owned the Chateau. Interestingly, the same name canbe seen on the bottles of DRC Romanee-St-Vivant in honour of the previous proprietors of that particular Grand Cru.
The chateau and winery is now owned by an American tech billionaire and has recently been extended and modernised and will include a small upmarket hotel. However investment went further than then buildings and after beginning the process of change in the vineyard in 2016, they achieve certified organic in 2019 and from 2021 is it also certified biodynamic.
